Students should be involved in extracurricular activities that match their interests and offer them opportunities to engage outside of the classroom. These activities can be wonderful resources for self-expression, athletic outlet, peer interaction, or just plain fun. There is no correct number of activities in which a student should be involved and, in fact, less can be more in many cases. Short-lived participation in a large array of extracurricular activities will not prove beneficial or rewarding. What is important is that your child seek out a couple of activities that interest her enough so that she will have sustained, in-depth involvement over the course of her high school years. This will result naturally in leadership opportunities within her areas of extracurricular interest, which will enhance her social development and be extremely fulfilling. |
